There she lay!

There she lay.
Beside the grave,
close to grave.
dozy, waiting for sleep,
but it tarries.

There she lay,
under the heat of the day,
and dampened by few at night.
The rain bathe.
The sun towels.

There she lay,
Close to grave.
Passers-by shake heads,filled with pity,
but pray for his return,
The biblical indigene of Samaria.

There she lay,
her cry reminds them
of their unploughed farms,
undeveloped sites,
and their hungry unborn babies.

There she lay,
reminiscing on the start of the journey,
the smooth road,
when it got rough,
what consequented her predicament?

There she lay,
thinking of the crops she planted,
the cost of ploughing,
and the expected harvest.
What an irony of life!

Lizards crawl on their belly.

Lizards crawl on their belly
as a result of fate.
No one knows those the belly ache.
Are all shoots of friendly gesture rooted in the mind?
Or streams of homely smiles,
sourced from a pleasant inside?
Why should the hot water in the aluminium steel feel cold on the outside?
Why should a thing glitter when it isn't gold?
How do one live right and be sure he is at peace with another?
Men, like chameleon, the shade you see,
the shade of deceit aimed at making you the fool.
Placing on you a crown of thorns,
in guise of a that of olive branches.
Those same that lick your boot,
turn to bite your back.
Oh! How herculean
trying to diagnose the ache.
Rather see the belly,
and ignore the ache.

without God

WITHOUT GOD IN THE WORLD,

HOW WILL THE WORLD BE?

WHEN WITH GOD,

WE FAIL TO SHOW LOVE TO OURSELVES.

WITHOUT GOD IN THE WORLD,

WHAT SHALL OUR HEARTS BE LIKE?

WHEN WITH GOD,

OUR HEARTS ARE LIKE GHETTO GUTTERS.

WITHOUT GOD IN THE WORLD,

WHAT SHALL THE WORDS OF OUR MOUTHS BE LIKE?

WHEN WITH GOD,

OUR WORDS STINK.

WITHOUT GOD IN THE WORLD,

HOW SHALL WE LIVE TOGETHER?

WHEN WITH GOD,

OUR HOUSES ARE BATTLE FIELDS.

WITHOUT GOD IN THE WORLD,

HOW SHALL WE LOVE?

WHEN WITH GOD,

LOVE IS CONDITIONAL

ALMIGTHY GOD

PURIFY OUR HEARTS AND REFINE OUR SOULS

TO DO YOUR WILL FOR

WITHOUT YOU, WE ARE NOTHING.

Leisure

WHEN THE MOONLIGHT OVERCOME THE DAY

THEN WE COME OUT TO HAVE THE EVENING BREEZE

AND INHALE ITS BREATH AFTER A TIRING DAY AT OUR FARMS,

DIGGING, MAKING RIDGES, PLANTING AND HARVESTING.

WHEN THE MOOLIGHT OVERCOME THE DAY

THEN, I LIKE TO LISTEN TO MOONLIGHT STORIES ABOUT THE CUNING TORTOISE

AND THE HARDWORKING DOG WHICH OUR MOTHERS TELL

SO AS TO TEACH US MORALS

WHEN THE MOONLIGHT OVERCOME THE DAY

ADESEKE AND I GIST ABOUT THE BEAUTIFUL AND UGLY DAMSELS IN OUR VILLAGE

HOW THEY WALK LIKE SLAVES ESCAPING FROM THEIR MASTERS

WE RARELY HEAR THEIR FOOTSTEPS

AND THE SOUND OF THEIR WAITBEADS FASCINATES YOUNG MEN

WHEN THE MOONLIGHT OVERCOME THE DAY

WE LOOK INTO EACH OTHERS EYES

AS IF LOOKING FOR A SPECK INSIDE IT.

WE RUN AFTER OURSELVES IN THE WOODS

UNDER THE SHADE OF TREES IN DISGUISE OF LOVE GAMES,

SMILING AT EACH OTHER LIKE WE WERE CONTROLLED TO DO SO

WHEN THE MOONLIIGHT OVERCOME THE DAY

WE HEAR CLAPS ERUPTING LIKE A BOMB

AS GIRLS PLAY THEIR TENTEN GAME.

WE HEAR SONGS OF PRAISE AS BOYS PLAY THEIR FOOTBALL,

WE HEAR

GOO O AAA L!

WHEN THE MOONLIGHT OVERCOME THE DAY

UNDER THE WATER WE PRACTISE OUR DIFFERENT SWIMMING SKILLS.

ALL WEARING NOTHING BUT PANTS AS THE NATURAL RIVER COOLNESS

COOLS OUR BODY, SOUL AND SPIRIT AFTER A TIRING DAY.

An African is missing

An African is missing.

He is lost in the woods of the western world.

He has been blindfolded not to know his paths.

He has forgotten his roots,

and seems to find pleasure in the woods like bee finds pleasure in honey.

He has forgotten about mama Africa.

The search party whistles but all to no-avail.

The bird sings her message,

but pleasure seems to have blocked his ears.

An African is missing!

I hear mama Africa wail

“my son, my son why hath thou forsaken me”

.Why have you strayed path of foolishness

despite the path of wisdom laid for you?

Why have you disgraced the dignity of your beautiful black blood?

Why have you weakened your African agility and strength with little pleasure?

Have you forgotten the hardship they made you go through?

Have you forgotten the slavery and discrimination you went through in their hands?

Have you forgotten how they refused your forefathers the fruit of their labour?

Come back African.

Come back to make your motherland regain its lost glory.

From the north to the south,

east to west.

Come back home.

Come back to Africa.
